Sara Welponer lavora prevalentemente con il disegno e la pittura e ama combinare entrambe le tecniche su carta e su supporti lignei.
La pittura a olio, per esempio, viene talvolta applicata con il pennello, altre volte premuta sulla superficie, in modo da creare effetti ruvidi e crepati oppure lisci e setosi.
I suoi temi preferiti nascono dalla fusione di impressioni personali, percezioni, ricordi e finzione con elementi tratti dalla natura, dalle fiabe, dall’esoterismo, dalla mitologia, dall’archeologia, dai libri illustrati e dai fumetti.
Occasionalmente realizza sculture di polvere.
«L’artista Sara Welponer, dopo la formazione presso la Scuola d’arte di Ortisei (BZ) e la Scuola del Fumetto di Milano, lavora come illustratrice freelance e autrice di libri illustrati.
Le sue opere affascinano per la raffinata composizione grafica e pittorica, ricca di sfumature, e stimolano la riflessione grazie al loro linguaggio visivo simbolico e a temi come la memoria, l’identità e la percezione.
Le rappresentazioni di persone di Welponer convincono grazie a un linguaggio visivo che è al tempo stesso auratico e arcaico.”

Sara Welponer works primarily with drawing and painting and enjoys combining both techniques on paper and wooden surfaces.
Oil paint, for example, is sometimes applied with a brush, whilst at other times it is pressed onto the surface to create either rough, cracked effects or smooth, silky ones.
This gives rise to textures and surfaces with different characteristics, which either complement or contradict one another, yet together form a single subject.
Her favourite themes arise from the fusion of personal impressions, perceptions, memories and fiction with elements drawn from nature, fairy tales, esotericism, mythology, archaeology, illustrated books and comics.
Occasionally, she creates sculptures made of dust.

Her works captivate with their refined graphic and pictorial composition, rich in nuances, and provoke reflection through their symbolic visual language and themes such as memory, identity and perception.
Welponer’s depictions of people are compelling thanks to a visual language that is at once auratic and archaic.”
